I Should've

I slowly step into that room
and quietly try to sneak past,
hoping they do not see me.

At that moment, I notice "I Should've"
slinking out of the corner, taunting me.
Like a dual at high noon in an old Western,
we stare each other down.

Tonight, I will not let "I Should've"
get the best of me and just when I
wrestle "I Should've" to the ground,
I'm blindsided by "If Only"
and knocked into the wall by "What If",
while "I Can't" laughs at me.

Bruised and beaten, I crawl
to the door, vowing never to return,
but I know, I will,
like a warrior in an attempt
to defeat those words, and each
time I leave, I take a little piece
of "I Will" with me!
