For my Dad
This was a gift I gave to my dad for Father's Day, 2000:

Sometimes I don't always get the chance
to tell you how grateful I am that you
are my father. You are the greatest
man that I have ever known

You have done more for me than just
provide me with the necessities of life.
Anyone can put food on the table and
put a roof over your head. It takes
a man to be a father. You played an
important part in raising me and in
shaping my mind, which in turn, has
provided the foundation of my life
and has helped to make me the person
that I am today.

We may not have always seen eye to eye
and, yes, many times we disagreed.
Sometimes I was at fault and sometimes
you wouldn't listen to what I had to say

Through the years, as I have grown older,
I feel your influences in my life and have
learned that maturity and trust take time.
You have taught me important values
and morals and through you I have seen
and felt love.

You've given me a shoulder to cry on
and you are the first one I turn to for
advice on the lessons of life. You're not
the type of person to gloat or boast about
being right. You let me make my own decisions
and you support the choices I have
made, with love and understanding, even if
you didn't agree with them.

Though time and distance may have kept us
apart and we have hit some bumps in the
road we have traveled, I always knew you
would be there for me, even if I didn't
realize it at that time.

You have told me how proud you are of
me--that means everything to me--just
as you mean the world to me.
Even though I may not say it enough
I truly do love you and am proud
to call you my father

Dedicated to my dad, John
